David Swenson

My Teacher is coming back

May 24 – June 02, 2024

We are happy to announce for the second time the hosting of my teacher David Swenson in Athens! Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to meet one of only a handful of Westerners to have learned the full Ashtanga system including all of the asana sequences and pranayama as originally taught by K. Pattabhi Jois. Deepen your practice, and also live an experience that will travel you to the origins of Ashtanga Yoga!

Who is David Swenson

David began his journey of Yoga in 1969 when he and his brother Doug practiced in a small park at the end of their street in Houston, Texas. There were few sources for yoga at that time so they practiced from whatever books they could find. In 1973 David discovered Ashtanga after he met David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff in Encinitas, CA. In 1975 David and Nancy brought K. Pattabhi Jois to the U.S. for the first time and Swenson was fortunate enough to be there. He then initiated studies directly with the master. He made his first trip to Mysore in 1977. David is one of only a handful of Westerners to have learned the full Ashtanga system including all of the asana sequences and pranayama as originally taught by K. Pattabhi Jois. Today David is recognized as one of the world’s foremost practitioners and instructors of Ashtanga Yoga. He tirelessly travels year round to teach and offer workshops. His courses are presented in a supportive and compassionate manner making it accessible to all levels of practitioners to participate.

“Ashtanga Yoga is an incredible tool that seeks to balance our strength with flexibility and to bring about a sense of wellbeing on an emotional and mental level. A steady and regulated practice over a long period of time is the catalyst to these changes. We must be patient and listen to our body and progress at our own pace. By focusing on the breath and moving with awareness then our yoga body/mind grows like a tree. It requires steadfast care and watering through the avenue of conscious and diligent practice.”

10 days full of Ashtanga practice

Practitioners will have the opportunity to practice, learn, and deepen their practice in a versatile type of two different events, a Weekend Workshop and a First Series Teacher Training. Each and everyone is unique, and can provide different knowledge and feedback to the practitioner. Participating in both gives the best experience regarding the whole system.

A Weekend to Explore Ashtanga Inside and Out – Intermediate & Advanced Series
May 24 – May 26, 2024

For the first time in his career as a teacher, David is going to teach this completely new seminar, conducted as a guided presentation of select asanas and vinyasas from the Intermediate and Advanced series of Ashtanga yoga.

This fun-filled weekend is designed as a guided tour through select asanas and flowing sequences from the Intermediate and Advanced Series of Ashtanga Yoga. Whether you are a curious student who has felt intimidated by these dynamic series or a seasoned practitioner looking for greater depth, this weekend of classes is sure to be a rewarding experience. Through his decades of experience, David has developed the skill of presenting the most complex asanas and flowing sequences in a down-to-earth and accessible manner. There will be both guided routines from the Intermediate and Advanced Series and sections where David will provide minute details to explore the greater depths of individual asanas and their energetic components. In addition to having a great time, you will leave with added knowledge and tools to carry home with you to enhance your personal practice!

Teacher Training Primary Series

May 27 – June 02, 2024

The essence of the Ashtanga practice wrapped up in a 40 hour Teacher Training course. This course is designed as an intensive immersion into the teaching techniques of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. Participants will gain great insights and depth of knowledge as to how to share the practice of Ashtanga Yoga with all levels of students in a safe and effective manner. Once again, David shares enormous and quality information, not only on the physical aspect of the practice in the asanas, alignment and adjustment techniques but also on underlying concepts that help the practitioner balance on an emotional and mental state. David always brings joy in the room, creating the appropriate environment for values to blossom like compassion, determination, truthfulness, friendship and many more.
